Supporting the Right to Volunteer
Volunteer Burnaby embraces and supports all individuals right to access volunteer opportunities regardless of age, gender, ethnic background, religion, mental or physical ability, or sexual orientation in their efforts to contribute to their communities.
Based on our values, we introduced in 1993 the Special needs Access Program (SNAP) today supported by Community Living BC. Our program supports people with mild to moderate developmental disabilities by helping them find meaningful volunteer positions within their community.
How does the Special Needs Access Program work?
Participants to this program must be referred by the offices of Community Living BC Burnaby-New Westminster located at #203 - 4946 Canada Way, Burnaby, BC V5G 4H7 Phone: 604-660-8124 or visit the Community Living BC website.
We encourage agencies and non-profit organizations to participate in this valuable program:
- Show leadership in your sector and the community by selecting a supported volunteer
- Be open to the skills and abilities that a person with a developmental disability can bring to your agency or organization
- Make the selection of a supported volunteer one of your top priorities when you need a volunteer
- Do not limit your talent pool from which you look for that special person to bring to your organization
- Let us take care of your private and confidential documents in our Supported Volunteering Shredding Program at a preferred partner agency rate
